Terminus
Terminus, a scientific term, describes the endpoint of glaciers — the place where most of the ice mass melts, in a landscape that is constantly transforming.
Over the years, I kept returning to these areas to make images, drawn by the stark beauty of ice, especially under overcast skies. But eventually I realised that some of these photographs were about something else. At times, they seemed to convey uncertainty and danger; at others, isolation, helplessness, turmoil or even anxiety — not only about the inevitable fate of glaciers, but also about the broader negative impact being felt, in one way or another, across most ecosystems.
At the same time, as someone involved in conservation projects, I know there are reasons to remain hopeful. I want to look at the transient beauty of glaciers through an optimistic lens and do everything I can within my own community, hoping that each small action will eventually help turn things around.
